Transformer Catches Fire in Somers, 900 Without Power

SOMERS, N.Y. – Nine-hundred residents were without power for two hours Sunday when a transformer caught fire at Heritage Hills in Somers.

Tom Lennon, NYSEG foreman, said some sort of animal contact was the source of the problem.

The Somers Fire Department closed the street to extinguish the fire before the NYSEG crew arrived to access the issue around 2 p.m. on Sunday.

NYSEG restored power by roughly 4 p.m. and the fire depatment reopened the street.

The transformer is located in the West Hills section of the complex.
