Update: Somers' Government Phones Back On

SOMERS, N.Y. - Telephone service has been restored to the various Westchester municipalities that lost power on Tuesday morning, incuding Somers. Most service resumed at approximately 8 p.m. Tuesday night. Locally, the power loss affected North Salem, Somers, Bedford and Mt. Kisco.

The problem was caused by an accidental cut to an Optimum LightPath cable. Optimum LightPath is a subdivision of Cablevision.

"We are a business, we must operate like a business so it is great to be able to communicate verbally once again," said Somers Supervisor Mary Beth Murphy. "The county said they will have conversations with Cablevision to make sure there is redundancy in case this happens again."

Cablevision spokesperson Charlstie Laytin Veith said that "service was interrupted for a small number of customers for a part of the day Tuesday, the result of damage to a portion of our network.  We worked quickly to make the necessary repairs and service was fully restored by early evening. We apologize for any inconvenience this has caused our customers."
