Monday, June 18

Defensive Driving Course: 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. An AARP Defensive Driving Course will be offered at the Somers Library for members and non-members of AARP. Call the library to register: (914) 232-5717. Cost is $17-$19. The Somers Library is at 82 Primrose St. in Reis Park.

Older Book Buddy Orientation: 5-5:45 p.m. Teens who plan to work with a younger reader during the summer will meet for orientation and learn how to find and use appropriate materials and other ways to work successfully with the younger children. Pizza will be served. The Somers Library is at 82 Primrose St. in Reis Park.

Tuesday, June 19

Somers Democrats Awards Dinner: 6 p.m. Guest presenters at the annual awards dinner include Westchester District Attorney Janet DiFiore, County Clerk Tim Idoni, Westchester County Democratic Committee Chairman Reggie Lafayette and County Legislators Michael Kaplowitz and Peter Harckham. The event takes place at Travelers Rest, Route 100, Millwood. Contact Christine Robbins at (914) 245-5120 for more information.

Meeting of the Substance Abuse Council: 6:30 p.m The council will meet at the Somers Town House, 335 Route 202, Somers.

Meeting of the Somers Zoning Board of Appeals: 7:30 p.m. The meeting will be held at The Somers Library, 82 Primrose St. in Reis Park.

Wednesday, June 20

Somers High School Graduation: 5-7 p.m. The graduation ceremony for the Somers High School Class of 2012 will be at Primrose Field, 110 Primrose St., Somers.

Thursday, June 21 

Somers Middle School Graduation: 2-4 p.m. The graduation ceremony for the Somers Middle School will be at Primrose Field, 110 Primrose St., Somers. 

Book Club Night: 6:30-7:30 p.m. The Somers Library presents a night dedicated to Book Clubs. Learn how the library can help you select books, how to reserve titles and how to download titles onto your Nook or Kindle. Bring a dessert to share. The library is at 82 Primrose St. in Reis Park.

Meeting of the Open Space Committee: 7:30 p.m. The committee will meet at the Somers Town House, 335 Route 202, Somers.
