What’s Happening Around Somers This Weekend

SOMERS, N.Y. – Relay For Life is the highlight of this weekend in Somers, along with two concerts, a play, an exhibition opening and some events at Muscoot Farm. 

Friday, June 1

Relay For Life: 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. This is the night — and it only happens once a year. Relay For Life teams walk/run/jog around the track all night to raise funds for the American Cancer Society. If you don’t want to walk, go and cheer and enjoy some of the activities. The giant event takes place at Somers Middle School, 250 Route 202, Somers.

Saturday, June 2

Family Fun Day: 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Join the Community YMCA of Northern Westchester at its Annual Family and Friends Day. There will be inflatable rides, carnival games, face painting, balloon animals, crafts, tasty food and more. The event takes place at Pequenakonack Elementary School on June Road in North Salem. 

Shakespeare at the Schoolhouse: 8 p.m. The season’s final dramatic presentation at the Schoolhouse, “Twelfth Night,” will run until June 10. Performances are on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m. Sunday matinees are at 3 p.m. Tickets are $33 for Thursdays and Fridays, $35 for Saturdays and Sundays. Sunday, June 3

Mahopac Farmers' Market: 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Temple Beth Shalom announces the grand opening of the Mahopac Farmers' Market, marked by a ribbon cutting with town officials at noon. The market, open every Sunday, will offer local fruits and vegetables, greens, baked goods, cheese, nuts, coffee and more. Temple Beth Shalom is located at 760 Route 6 at Croton Falls Road in Mahopac. For further information, call 845-628-6133.

Open Days Garden Tour: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Four spectacular North Salem gardens will be open to the public. The gardens include Artemis Farm, Keeler Hill Farm, Duck Hill and Perrin Garden. For tickets and/or addresses and specific opening hours see the website. The entry fees are $5 or less and all proceeds benefit The Garden Conservancy.

AFP Volunteer Day: 10 a.m. It’s volunteer day at Somers’ Angle Fly Preserve. Meet at the Hilltop Road entrance to the preserve and bring your favorite tools, plus strong gloves and a supply of snacks and water. New volunteers are always welcome.

Artists’ Reception at the Schoolhouse: Noon to 2 p.m. In conjunction with its current stage production of Shakespeare’s “Twelfth Night,” the Schoolhouse Art Gallery will feature photo montages by Stephen Gordon and photo manipulations by Alan P. Cohen. The artists' reception is open to all. The exhibition will run through June 10. The Schoolhouse Theater is located at 3 Owens Road in Croton Falls.

Dairy Day at Muscoot: 1 to 3 p.m. The Muscoot 4H Gang will teach everyone about the farm’s dairy goats and dairy products. Children will get to play dairy games, too. There is no fee. Muscoot Farm is on Route 100, 1½ miles south of Route 35 in Somers.

Concert at the Somers Library: 2 to 3 p.m. American percussionist, Ian Rosenbaum, will perform on snare drums and marimbas in a program of music by Bach, Cage, Messiaen and Vinao. Rosenbaum is a founding member of Le Train Bleu Novus NY. There is no charge. The Somers Library is located at 82 Primrose St. in Somers.

Somers Youth Bands: 2 to 6 p.m. Somers High School Jazz Band and Westchester School of Rock present "A Day of Music in the Park." Bring a blanket or lawn chair and watch local teens perform jazz, rock and blues. The rain date is June 10. The event is free of charge and takes place at Bailey Park, at Routes 100 and 202 in Somers.
