A heavy wet snow of 5 to 8 inches is now predicted for the region with up to a tenth of an inch of ice. The Winter Storm Warning is in effect from midnight until 6 p.m. Saturday for Putnam County.

Visibility could be a quarter mile or less as snow falls at a rate of an inch per hour overnight and into Saturday afternoon. The temperature will be about 30 degrees as the snow tapers off in the early evening.

Travel could be treacherous due to the wintry mix of snow, sleet and ice. The weight of the heavy, wet accumulation combined with northeast winds of 10 to 25 mph could knock down tree limbs and power lines.

Westchester remains under a Winter Weather Advisory with 2 to 5 inches of snow along with a tenth of an inch of ice predicted.
