Former Peekskill Resident, Famed Romance Novelist Bertrice Small Dies At 77

PEEKSKILL, N.Y. -- Bertrice Small, a prolific romance novelist who attended school in Peekskill, died on Feb. 24, according to The New York Times, at the age of 77.

Small published 56 romance novels. Her writing career began at St. Mary's, a school for girls run by nuns, in Peekskill according to the Times, where she found out one of her teachers had been one of her favorite authors.

Her first novel, about an Inca princess who jumped from Machu Picchu in Peru rather than commit to an evil Spanish conquistador, was inspired by her time at St. Mary's, according to the Times.
