SOMERS, N.Y. – Frances C. Cambere of Somers died Dec. 27 at Waterview Hills Nursing Home in Purdys. She was 102.
Cambere was born March 25, 1910, in Mount Vernon to Emanuel and Carmela Ciatti Cuzzi. She attended Mount Vernon schools and was a member of the first graduating class of Sarah Lawrence College in Bronxville, where she majored in liberal arts.
While in college, she was active in tennis, golf and fencing. She later received a business degree from Katherine Gibbs School in New York City. She was a former longtime resident of Pelham and Bronxville.
Cambere was associated with the Seas Shipping Co. of New York for many years. Throughout her life, she enjoyed spending time with family, traveling, reading, cooking, playing bridge and watching sports.
She married Ara Cambere July 10, 1971. She was predeceased by her husband; three brothers, Joseph, Nicholas and Frank Cuzzi; and a sister, Anna (Nina) Orsenigo.
Cambere is survived by a sister, Rita Kenedy, of Saranac Lake, N.Y.; six step-children, Yvonne Cambere, Sandy Mumbach, Peter Cambere, Kathy Muller, John Cambere and Rick Cambere; several step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren; and 11 nieces and seven nephews.
Visitation is from 4-8 p.m. Friday at Clark Associates Funeral Home in Katonah. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph's Church in Croton Falls. Burial will follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in New Rochelle.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or to a favorite charity.
