SOMERS, N.Y. – Frank Carmine Biondi of Somers, formerly of Yonkers, died Jan. 29. He was 89.
He was born July 16, 1923, in the Bronx to Gaetano and Vincenza Risi Biondi. Raised and educated in the Bronx, Biondi graduated from Morris High School. He worked as a building inspector for New York City for more than 20 years.
Biondi also worked as an ornamental iron worker for Local 455 for more than 20 years. On Aug. 15, 1948, he married Alvine Wendell at St. Matthew's Church in the Bronx. She survives him, living in Somers.
Biondi served in the Navy during World War II and the Korean War. He was also a former member of the American Turners Gymnastics Club in the Bronx.
He is survived by his wife, Alvine; two children, Guy L. (Ann Marie) Biondi, of Rockland; and Diane K. (Richard) Welsh, of New Fairfield, Conn.; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a brother, Lorenzo; four sisters, Nellie Edder, Christina Anna Pluta, Petronella Gifford and Philomena Turco.
Visitation is from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Monday at Whalen and Ball Funeral Home in Yonkers. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Sacred Heart Church in Yonkers. Entombment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Hawthorne.
