Hudson Valley Girl Succumbs To Rare Disease At Age 15

A Hudson Valley girl whose battle with an extremely rare disease of the nervous system prompted an outpouring of support and attention from news outlets and social media has died.

Brianna Christine Skriver of Newburgh succumbed to Batten disease on Friday, Jan. 12 at Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital. She was 15.

Brianna loved dancing, playing soccer, and loved her Disney Princesses.

The daughter of Tammy (MacMorran) Skriver, she was born March 5, 2002 in Kissimmee, Florida.

In addition to her mother Tammy, she is survived by her brother, Austin Skriver, at home; her grandparents, David and LouAnn MacMorran of Florida; her great-grandfather, James MacMorran of Florida; her Aunt Debbie and Uncle Brian Barbera, and Aunt Kim and Uncle Joe Consorti; cousins, Sydney, Paige and Chloe Barbera and Joey Consorti, all of Newburgh; and many friends. She was predeceased by her great-grandmother, Anna MacMorran.

Visitation will be held from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 14 at Brooks Funeral Home, 481 Gidney Ave. in Newburgh. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 15 at St. Thomas of Canterbury Church, 340 Hudson St. in Cornwall-on-Hudson.
