Joseph Gallello, 78, Former Somers Deli Owner

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. – Joseph Gallello, formerly of New Rochelle, died Sunday, Sept. 16. He was 78.

Most recently of Carmel, N.Y., Gallello was the owner of Bon Appetit Deli in Jefferson Valley, N.Y., and Grand Slam Deli in Somers.

He was born May 17, 1934, in New Rochelle to Joseph and Raffaela Rosamonda Gallello. He served in the Army during the Korean War.

He is survived by a daughter, Dianne Scarcella; three granddaughters; and his longtime companion, Maria Canonico. He was predeceased by a brother, Nick; and a sister, Rose D’Angelo.

Visiting hours are from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Lloyd Maxcy & Sons Beauchamp Chapel in New Rochelle. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Joseph's Church in New Rochelle. Cremation will follow at Ferncliff Cemetery in Hartsdale.
