Joseph vanBeuren Wittmann, Jr., 80, Of Somers, Manager For AT&T

SOMERS, N.Y. - Joseph vanBeuren Wittmann, Jr. of Somers died April 13. He was 80.

Wittmann held a BEE from N.Y. University and took many graduate engineering courses. He also attended many adult education classes in diversified fields, from Arabic to Opera to Art History. He attended the Allen-Stevenson School in New York City and was a graduate of Deerfield Academy. He was a first lieutenant in the U.S. Army Signal Corps on three separate occasions. After his military service he spent 34 years as a manager in the Long Distance Branch of AT&T.

He was a longtime member of the Bedford Golf and Tennis Club and of the University Club in New York. He was a longtime member of the N.Y. State Society of the Cincinnati, the Saint Nicholas Society, the Society of Colonial Wars in the State of N.Y., the Colonial Lords of Manors, and a Trustee of Ivandell Cemetery in Somers.

Wittmann is survived by his wife, Barbara S. Wittmann of Somers; son, Joseph vanBeuren Wittmann III of Carmel (Jennifer); daughter, Rachel DeWitt Wittmann-Maher (Charles) of Somers; and two grandchildren.

Calling hours are Friday, April 25 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Clark Associates Funeral Home in Katonah. There will be a service Saturday, April 26 at St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Somers at 1:30 p.m. The interment is immediately following at Ivandell Cemetery in Somers.
