Lorraine Dolan, 81, Of Somers

SOMERS, N.Y. – Lorraine McGaffin Dolan of Somers and formerly of White Plains died Feb. 8 at Hebrew Hospital Home in Valhalla after a prolonged illness. She was 81.

Born Feb. 20, 1931, Dolan was the daughter of George W. and Elsie Finigan McGaffin in Elmsford. She graduated from Alexander Hamilton High School in Elmsford and studied at Parsons School of Design.

She worked for AT&T in White Plains as an overseas telephone operator, a career that her family said she enjoyed immensely. She also worked as an interior decorator.

Dolan was predeceased by two brothers, George C. McGaffin and Donald McGaffin; her former husbands, Edwin Dolan and Allan V. Becker. She is survived by four children, Debbie (Jerry) Nevins, of Redding, Conn., Michael (Tina) Dolan, of Mahopac, N.Y.; Janice Hilbrink, of White Plains, and Barbara Hannigan, of Rye Brook; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

She is also survived by a sister, Mickie Cloward, of Somers; a cousin, Lynn Kay, of North Carolina; and her close friend, Bob McElroy, of Rhinebeck.

Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Ballard-Durand Funeral Home in White Plains, with a memorial celebration at 7 p.m. Burial will be private at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Hawthorne.

Memorial donations may be made to local animal shelter or the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research.
