Police Officer From Westchester Dies Of 9/11-Related Cancer

A 56-year-old retired police officer from Harrison who was one of the responders following the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks died on Saturday just two days before the 16th anniversary of the event from 9-11 related cancer.

Walter Mallinson was a K-9 officer with the Harrison Police Department and an avid fisherman.

He was the husband of Patricia (nee Powell), father of Trooper Sean P. Mallinson and Kaitlin Anne Mallinson,  brother of Chuck, John, the late Beth Cassidy and uncle to many nieces and nephews. 

To honor his life and service, friends may call on Tuesday, Sept. 12 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Coxe and Graziano Funeral Home, 767 East Boston Post Road in Mamaroneck. 

A mass of the Resurrection will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 13 at 11 a.m. at St. Gregory the Great R.C. Church. Committal will be private.
