Thomas Bradbury Sr., 85, Somers WWII Veteran

SOMERS, N.Y. – Thomas "Tom" P. Bradbury Sr. of Somers died Oct. 16. He was 85. 

Born March 29, 1927, Bradbury served in the Navy during World War II. He fought in the Battle of Normandy aboard the USS Eldridge. Bradbury worked for the Manhattan and Bronx Surface Transit Operating Authority for many years. 

While living in Stanfordville, N.Y., during his retirement, he served as a Republican councilman for 13 years, worked for Cardinal Hayes Home and was president of the Lions Club. 

Bradbury is survived by his wife of 67 years, Virginia "Jinnie" Bradbury; four children, Thomas (Nancy) Bradbury Jr., Peggy (Joe) Cassino, Richard (Karen) Bradbury and Susan (Joe) Pietretti; two brothers-in-law, Ted and Richard LaVigna; 15 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by two sisters, Edna Harmke and Gertrude Houlihan; and four brothers, Jack Bradbury, Frank Bray, Willie Bray and Jack Bray. 

Visitation is from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m., Thursday and Friday, at Joseph J. Smith Funeral Home in Mahopac, N.Y. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m.,, Saturday at St. Joseph's Church in Croton Falls. Burial will follow at Kensico Cemetery in Valhalla. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, KS 66675.
