The charge came about when a patrol officer observed a black Jeep driven by Glen A. Bernardi, who was allegedly using a cell phone as the vehicle traveled westbound along Saw Mill River Road on Thursday, Sept. 15, about 10:45 a.m., according to police.

A computer check at the scene revealed that Bernardi’s New York State driver’s license was allegedly suspended and the vehicle’s registration was expired, according to police.

Bernardi was arrested at the scene and transported to Police Headquarters; the suspect has been charged with aggravated unlicensed operation in the third degree, an unclassified misdemeanor, along with operating a motor vehicle while using a cell phone and having an unregistered vehicle, both traffic violations, police said.

Following processing, Bernardi was issued a traffic summons in reference to the charges, then released on $100 bail, according to police.

The defendant is scheduled to answer the charges against him in Yorktown Court on Tuesday, Oct. 18, police said.
