The Bedford Police Department will no longer be using the traditional chalking of tires method to monitor overtime parking, police announced.
Automatic license-plate readers are now being used in town, police said.
The new technology allows vehicles to be monitored through global positioning system technology to alert parking enforcement officers to vehicles that are in violation of the overtime restrictions, according to police.
The technology also helps to identify "scofflaw vehicles," police said.
