Carmel Man, 27, Gets Mental-Health Review Over 'Violent Behavior'

PUTNAM COUNTY, N.Y. - An “emotionally distressed” man from a Carmel group home was taken to the hospital for a mental health examination last weekend after exhibiting violent behavior, according to police.

Putnam County Sheriff Donald Smith reported on Thursday that a 27-year-old man was taken into custody shortly before 12:30 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 19 after behaving violently and requesting that he be taken to the hospital for evaluation.

According to Smith, Deputy Sheriff Eric Hayes took the man into custody at the group home under the Mental Hygiene Law after determining that he may be a threat to himself or others. The man was then transported to the Putnam Hospital Center in Carmel for a mental health evaluation. No injuries were reported during the incident. The condition of the patient has not been released.
