Devastating Mahopac Falls House Fire Ruled Accidental

MAHOPAC FALLS, N.Y. -- The cause of Sunday's house fire in Mahopac Falls has been ruled accidental and electrical, according to Brian Sacher, 1st Assistant Chief with the Mahopac Falls Volunteer Fire Department.

Rubble is all that remains of a Mahopac Falls home damaged by a fire and subsequently demolished. The debris is mostly covered by snow.

Sacher said the fire was caused by an overloaded wire, which was located in the house's kitchen area.

The blaze, put out by local firefighters with support on site from three neighboring fire departments, severely damaged the structure. The house was located at 72 Entrance Way, in a neighborhood near Lake Secor.

The house was demolished on Sunday night, Sacher added. The assistant chief previously anticipated that there would be a demolition when interviewed on Sunday afternoon.

On Wednesday, a large pile of rubble was all that remained of the former home. The pile had largely blanketed by fresh snow that came from a snowstorm earlier this week. A single blue car was parked in the property's driveway.

Meanwhile, two fundraisers have started for the Dundrea family, who resided in the home prior to its destruction. The fundraisers are seeking $10,000 each. One fundraiser, hosted by GiveForward, shows $6,579 raised as of Wednesday afternoon. The other fundraiser, hosted by GoFundMe, shows $5,495 raised.
