The incident, which occurred at 8:30 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 12, took place in the visitation room of the jail facility, said Capt. William McNamara.
Correction Officer Richard Greagor observed suspicious contact between Philip Callaci, 49, and his visitor Dawn Lagatella, 38, who live together in Mahopac, McNamara said.
"The officer determined that the woman had allegedly passed drugs to the inmate and the drugs were seized," he added.
Sheriff's deputies responded to the jail and arrested both Callaci and Lagatella after the drug hand-off was confirmed by being captured on security video, he McNamara said.
Sheriff's Investigator Shaun Menton charged Lagatella with criminal sale of a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance and promoting prison contraband, all felonies.
She is being held at the jail in lieu of $10,000 cash or $20,000 bond pending a future court appearance.
Callaci was charged with promoting prison contraband and possession of a controlled substance. He was committed back to jail with bail set at $50,000.
If found guilty of the most serious felony charges, Lagatella could face up to 25 years in prison and a fine of up to $30,000. If found guilty of his felony charge, Callaci could face up to seven years in prison and a fine of up to $5,000.
At the time of his arrest, Callaci was in jail awaiting trial for a previous drug charge.
