New York State Police from the Cortlandt barracks responded to a car/pedestrian collision about 8:20 p.m. Thursday on East Main Street, near Baker Street.

A police investigation revealed a 2007 Volvo operated by Mark Marmer, 66, of Putnam Valley, was traveling east on East Market Street. An unidentified and uninvolved vehicle suddenly swerved in front of Marmer’s vehicle, cutting him off in an aggressive manner, police said. Marmer then observed a person pushing a shopping cart in the road and was unable to avoid striking the pedestrian, police said. The pedestrian later was identified as Allen Phillips, 79, of Mohegan Lake.

Phillips was transported to Westchester Medical Center by Mohegan Lake Emergency Medical Service and is listed in stable condition.

East Main Street was closed for several hours while the state police collision reconstruction unit conducted an investigation.

It does not appear alcohol or drug were contributing factor in the collision, police said.
