Billy Batallas-Fuentes, 23, of Peekskill, was wanted for stabbing another 23-year-old Peekskill man several times in the chest near the corner of North Broad and Cortlandt streets around 5 p.m., police said.

The victim remains in serious condition at the Westchester Medical Center with multiple stab wounds to the chest and upper torso, Johansen said.

The circumstances of the assault remain under investigation and it is not clear why the suspect targeted the victim. This is the second time in as many days that the victim was stabbed by the Batallas-Fuentes, who is also being charged with assault for the previous day’s incident, he added.

Johansen praised all of the officers involved for getting Batallas-Fuentes off the streets so quickly.

He also thanked the Peekskill Fire Department Paramedics and the Peekskill Ambulance Corp for the initial care provided to the victim which, he said, likely saved his life.

The Peekskill Police were assisted by the Westchester County Department of Public Safety who sent their K9 and aviation units to the scene.

Batallas-Fuentes is being held pending his arraignment in Peekskill City Court.
