The pistols will be used for in-service training of personnel such as participating in simulated deadly force interactions.
"We’re very thankful to District Attorney Tendy for his assistance in purchasing these pistols for our training purposes," Carmel Police Chief Michael Cazzari said. "Our officers are trained and re-trained in the appropriate response to active-shooter scenarios, and these pistols are very similar to their service weapons allowing for a natural response to simulated lethal or non-lethal encounters.
"They’ll help make the department officers training as relevant and realistic as possible and will ensure that department personnel maintain their competency, and are prepared to meet the challenges of this very crucial area of police work.”
As part of their ongoing training, all the officers participate in realistic force-on-force training scenarios. The simulated pistols act just like real pistols, only they are not deadly—they don’t use real bullets. However, everything else (grip, magazine, trigger, sights, size, etc.) is exactly the same.
Cazzari also noted that “a highly trained police department that is progressive and professional is an asset to the community, and will continue to ensure an excellent quality of life to our residents and visitors to our town.”
“For a police officer, there’s nothing more harrowing, nothing fraught with more danger than a deadly force encounter," Tendy said. "It’s something no cop ever wants to be involved with, but they have to have all the training possible in the event they find themselves in that situation.
"These simulated pistols will assist the Carmel PD in their training and will help save lives. I’m really happy that we could help out. These police officers risk their lives every day, and we have to do everything we can to help them.”
