James A. Pidala was arrested by Putnam County Sheriff’s deputies on Dec. 16 in connection with two burglaries at a Nelsonville home, authorities said.
The first incident occurred on Dec. 9 when residents of the home reported someone had broken in and taken several items, according to the sheriff's office.
Less than a week later – on Dec. 15 – the same couple again called the sheriff's office, this time reporting that someone had attempted to burglarize the house, the sheriff's office said.
The Sheriff’s Department’s Bureau of Criminal Investigation identified Pidala as a suspect, arresting him the day after the second incident, the sheriff's office said.
The 24-year-old was arraigned in Philipstown Town Court, where he was charged with felony counts of second-degree burglary, fourth-degree grand larceny and second-degree attempted burglary, according to the sheriff's office, who said he was taken to the Putnam County jail on $10,000 cash bail or $20,000 bond.
Pidala is to answer to the charges at a later date. If convicted, he faces up to 15 years in state prison and a fine of up to $15,000.
