State troopers arrested and charged 20-year-old Anthony Colasacco with resisting arrest and obstruction of governmental administration after his alleged involvement in the Monday night car crash on Miller Avenue in Somers. Reported driver Paul T. Masi, of Shenorock, also was charged with third-degree attempted assault and fleeing the scene of an accident.
State police originally reported Masi was the lone suspect arrested in connection with the crash, but officials confirmed Thursday that Colasacco's name was not included on the report as he was sent to the hospital Monday night following his aleged run-in with police. The hospital stay delayed Colasacco's processing and his name being included in the report, state police said.
It remains unclear how many occupants were inside the vehicle at the time of the crash, but residents on Miller Avenue reported to police that four people got out of the vehicle after the crash into a retaining wall and subsequently fled into the woods. A helicopter chase followed later in the evening after a report of an attempted carjacking in the area, state police said, noting it was unclear whether the incidents were related.
Masi was issued an Aug. 26 appearance ticket returnable to the Town of Somers Court. The report on Colasacco's alleged involvement did not include a court date but state police representatives said it would most likely occur around Aug. 26.
