PEEKSKILL, N.Y. -- Police are investigating after a car crashed into the Hudson River on Saturday morning under the Jan Peeck Bridge near the Annesville  Circle in Peekskill.

The vehicle had been reported stolen earlier in the week, according to the Peekskill Post.

It was approximately 20 feet from shore and two-thirds of the way submerged, according to the Peekskill Volunteer Ambulance Corps.

The Yorktown Heights Volunteer Fire Department said it deployed two divers, one of which completed an underwater search of the immediate area around the vehicle, which was a blue sedan.

Upon completion of that search, a second diver was deployed to assist with attaching the tow cable, the YHVFD said.
