CARMEL, N.Y. – Three people were injured after a two-car collision at the intersection of Stoneleigh Avenue and Drewville Road in Carmel on Sunday night, Carmel Fire Chief Vinny Ruggiero confirmed.
The collision led to traffic on Stoneleigh coming to a halt. The fire department was dispatched at approximately 7:09 p.m., according to Ruggiero.
One of the people was seriously injured, Ruggiero said. Two of them were in one car. The third injured person was in the other, according to Ruggiero.
Although the collision happened just north of Putnam Hospital Center, the three were taken to Danbury Hospital. This is because Danbury Hospital has a trauma center, according to Ruggiero.
Traffic was reopened later Sunday night. Mutual aid was provided by firefighters from Croton Falls and Mahopac, along with Carmel and Brewster ambulances. Carmel Police and state police were also involved.
A helicopter request was cancelled because it was coming from Albany, according to Ruggiero.
