SOMERS, N.Y. – A Shenorock woman and a Chappaqua man were charged with possession of heroin on Tuesday after being stopped on a vehicle and traffic law violation, state police said.

Shenorock resident, Aleksandra Halerz, 23, and Joseph Watts, 23, of Chappaqua, were accused of having 32 grams of heroin, divided into 106 packages, along with a hypodermic syringe.

Both parties were charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance, third degree and criminal possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell, third degree. Both charges are Class B felonies.

Halerz and Watts were arraigned before Somers Town Justice Dennis Timone and sent to Westchester County Jail. They are due to reappear in court on Jan.14 at 6 p.m.

In another drug-related incident, New York State Police stopped Roger Perry, 19, of New Fairfield, Conn., on Tuesday for driving at 89 mph in a 65 mph zone on Interstate 684. The state trooper detected a strong odor of marijuana in the vehicle. A search disclosed approximately 40 grams of marijuana.

Perry was charged with criminal possession of marijuana in the fifth degree, a Class B misdemeanor. He was released on an appearance ticket, for Lewisboro Town Court on Feb. 4 at 7 p.m.

These incidents follow a December drug raid in Somers in which four people were arrested on heroin charges.
