A house located at 2 Maple Lane was engulfed in flames when police and firefighters arrived at approximately 3:45 a.m.
A resident of the home, Eugene Cosson, was located inside of the home deceased, state police said.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the State Police and the Putnam County Fire Investigation Team.
Route 121 was closed until around 2 p.m. between I-84 and Vail Boulevard as a result of the fire.
The fire was brought under control by the Brewster Fire Department, Croton Falls Fire Department, Danbury Fire Department, Carmel Fire Department, Lake Carmel Fire Department and the Putnam Lake Fire Department.
