On Friday, the Yorktown Police Department announced that Bronx residents Darryl Powell, Jr. and Nancy Grubbs are facing felony grand larceny charges for their scheme that allowed the pair to steal more than $2,000 in goods and cash from Toys”R”Us.
According to police, shortly before 8 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 20, police received a call from a Toys”R”Us employee, reporting a larceny. A subsequent investigation revealed that between Dec. 13 and 18, Grubbs, who was an employee of Toys”R”Us would allegedly allow Powell, posing as a customer, to go through the checkout line and not charge him for certain merchandise.
The police report also alleges that Grubbs would give Powell cash from the register. In all, the total loss from Toys”R”Us is valued at $2,521.98.
Following the investigation, Grubbs was taken into custody at Toys”R”Us, while Powell was located outside, in a vehicle, where he was allegedly smoking marijuana, leading to a misdemeanor possession charge on top of the grand larceny charge.
Both parties were arrested and transported to the Yorktown Police Department to be processed. Grubbs was released on $200 bail, while Powell’s was raised to $300. Both are due back in Yorktown Court on Tuesday, Jan. 24.
