SOMERS, N.Y. – Anthony Cirieco was sworn in as the new member of the Somers Town Board Wednesday evening in a ceremony at the Elephant Hotel.
Despite threatening weather, more than 50 people turned out. The ceremony was conducted by Town Clerk Kathleen Pacella.
Cirieco, a former member of the Board of Education, thanked those who braved the storm to attend and those who sent emails of apology. He also thanked his campaign manager, Frank Sanzillo, his treasurer, Per Hellberg, and town officials Rick Morrissey, Tom Garrity, Mary Beth Murphy and Richard Benedict, whom he replaced. Benedict was serving out the term of Harry Bolton, who resigned unexpectedly in the spring.
Among the dignitaries present were County Legislator Michael Kaplowitz, Judge Denis Timone and School Board Trustee Harvey Kriedberg.
Cirieco said he was pleased to see his family members in the audience. “I knocked on over 500 doors with my family by my side, from the car to the door and from door to door,” he said. “They realize that taking on the job of town councilman is a family commitment,” he said.
The Republican Cirieco defeated Democrat George Dieter in the November election. His term in office begins next week. “I’m really looking forward to it,” he said.
