Assemblyman Katz: New York Last In Economic Outlook

YORKTOWN, N.Y. -- Assemblyman Steve Katz, R,C-Yorktown, believes a failure to confront New York's large-scale taxation and regulatory issues in this year's budget and previous budgets has led to the state habitually being ranked dead last or 49th since 2008 in the American Legislative Exchange Council's economic outlook ratings.

"The Legislature meets every year and picks around the edges of the larger problems like the sky-high tax rates and the mountains of red tape," Katz said. "For instance, in this year's budget we debated how much policy would be included so the Legislature could do less work during the session. How often during budget negotiations and debate did we hear about lower taxes or mandate relief or cutting red tape? Rarely, if at all. Until we are able to confront the truly difficult issues facing this state, and we begin cutting taxes and spurring growth by eliminating red tape, we shouldn't expect to be anything but 50th for a long time."

Katz is a sponsor of Assembly Bill 5898, the Small Business Full Employment Act, which would enact regulatory and tax relief for small businesses with fewer than 100 employees.
