According to unofficial results from the New York State Board of Elections, Katz defeated Falk, 13,892 votes to 11,543 votes, 54.6 percent to 45.4 percent.

"If it's worth doing it's worth fighting for," Falk said on his Facebook page. "I am proud of the campaign we ran. We fell short but we fought for what we believed. Thank you for your support. I will never forget it."

Katz, a Yorktown resident, was running for a third term in the 94th Assembly District. Falk, a Brewster resident, had previously run against in Katz in 2012.

Last year, Katz was arrested for possession of marijuana, later accepting a plea deal of 20 hours of community service in exchange for the charges being dropped.

Following the arrest, Katz became an advocate for the legalization of medical marijuana in New York.

The 94th Assembly District represents Somers, Yorktown and Putnam County.
