Katz Defeats Gristina In Primary

CARMEL, N.Y. -- Incumbent Assembly member Steve Katz (R-Yorktown) defeated challenger Dario Gristina (R-Putnam Valley) Thursday night for the Republican nomination in the newly-redrawn 94th Assembly District.

With 78 percent of the vote in for Westchester, Katz was the apparent winner leading Gristina 60 to 40 percent, according to unofficial Board of Election votes.  Katz defeated Gristina in Putnam County 66 to 23 percent.

"We are all energized. You are going to see Republicans more energized than they have been before as this election moves forward," Katz told supporters.

Katz added, "I’m humbled. Absolutely humbled. I'm so proud to represent those people, and the fact that they are acknowledging the hard work that I've put in for them is truly a humbling experience for me. My focus is going to shift on the general election and the differences between what my opponent is proposing from myself."

Katz will face Democrat Andrew Falk in the November general election.

The district includes Yorktown, Somers, Carmel, Putnam Valley, Southeast and Patterson.
