Latimer Says Westchester Needs Change Following Primary Win

Latimer easily defeated Legislator Ken Jenkins in the Democratic primary for Westchester County Executive, 63 percent to 37 percent, according to unofficial results from the Westchester County Board of Elections. Latimer faces incumbent Rob Astorino in the general election. Astorino is running for a third term.

"Westchester needs change, and our taxpayers deserve a government that tells the truth, cuts patronage and waste, and puts people over political ideology," Latimer said. "For eight long years, Rob Astorino has worried more about his future political career, his allies, and his campaign contributors while taxpayers get left holding the bill."

In other county races, Chris Johnson won the District 16 Democratic primary in the race to replace Jenkins, according to unofficial results from the Westchester County Board of Elections. Johnson had 34 percent defeating Syrma Brandon, Carmen Goldberg, and Nicole Benjamin, who had 31 percent, 18 percent, and 17 percent, respectively.

Incumbent Virginia Perez defeated London Reyes in a District 17 Democratic primary 65 percent to 35 percent, according to unofficial results from the Westchester County Board of Elections. Bob Outhouse defeated incumbent Catherine Borgia to capture the Independence Party line, 69 percent to 31 percent, according to unofficial results from the Westchester County Board of Elections.

In the Mount Pleasant Republican primary for town council, Councilwoman Laurie Smalley and Thomas Sialiano defeated Joseph Soricelli and Councilman Denis McCarthy, according to unofficial results from the Westchester County Board of Elections. Smalley and Sialiano, who were backed by the Mount Pleasant Republicans, had 31 percent and 30 percent, respectively, while Soricelli and McCarthy both had 20 percent.

In the Mount Vernon Democratic primary for city council, Janice Duarte, Delia Farquharson and Marcus Griffith defeated Clyde Isley and Hope Marable, according to unofficial results from the Westchester County Board of Elections. Duarate, Farquharson and Griffith had 24 percent, 21 percent and 20 percent, respectively, while Isley and Marable had 19 percent and 17 percent.

Deborah Reynolds defeated incumbent Maureen Walker in the Democratic primary for comptroller, 53 percent to 47 percent, according to unofficial results from the Westchester County Board of Elections.

In Peekskill, Democrats Vanessa Agudelo, Ramon Fernandez and Colin Smith turned back a challenge from Luis Segarra and Robert Sullivan, according to unofficial results from the Westchester County Board of Elections. Agudelo, Fernandez and Smith had 28 percent, 27 percent and 27 percent respectively, while Segarra and Sullivan had 9 percent and 8 percent respectively.

Segarra and Sullivan will challenge the Democrats again in November on the Republican line.

In White Plains, Mayor Thomas Roach fended off a Democratic primary challenge from Councilwoman Milagros Lecuna, 72 percent to 28 percent, according to unofficial results from the Westchester County Board of Elections. 

Roach's slate, John Kirkpatrick, John Martin and Justin Brasch defeated Lecuna's slate, Michael Kraver, Alan Goldman and Saad Siddiqui in the Democratic primary for city council, according to unofficial results from the Westchester County Board of Elections. Kirkpatrick, Martin and Brasch had 21 percent, 20 percent and 18 percent respectively while Kraver, Goldman and Siddiqui had 15 percent, 14 percent and 12 percent, respectively.

Lecuna and Goldman will be on the Republican line in November, while Siddiqui and Kraver are on the Working Families Party line.

In Yonkers, Corazon Pineda defeated Wilson Terrero in the City Council District 2 Democratic primary, 54 percent to 46 percent, according to unofficial results from the Westchester County Board of Elections. Anthony Merante defeated Tony Pagano in the City Council District 6 Republican primary 53 percent to 47 percent, according to unofficial results from the Westchester County Board of Elections.
