Oliva said Maloney was being a "cynical politician" and noted Maloney had two televised debates with Nan Hayworth, whom Maloney defeated to win the seat in 2012.

" (He) can’t risk having his failed record exposed," Oliva said. "That pretty much sums up what the guy is all about. It’s all about him."

Oliva said a minimum of two televised debates should be scheduled. While no official televised debates have been scheduled, the two candidates will debate four times.

The candidates will meet Oct. 19 at the Dutchess County Chamber of Commerce, Oct. 20 for a Journal News Editorial Board Debate, Oct. 24 for a Times Herald Record Editorial Board Debate and Oct. 25 for a Poughkeepsie Journal Editorial Debate.
