Supervisor Mary Beth Murphy and Town Clerk Kathleen Pacella accepted the award at a luncheon ceremony at the Cultural Education Center in Albany.
“We are pleased to recognize the town of Somers for their outstanding efforts to manage and ultimately preserve the records of local government,” said State Archivist Christine Ward. Somers was selected from all local governments for having the state’s finest program, she explained.
The award acknowledges the town’s strong archival records program, its records disaster plan, active records advisory board, its dedicated budget for records management, and its successful community outreach efforts.
“The real winner is not the local government,” Ward added. “Rather, it is the state of New York. We commend all involved and wish them continued success.”
The archives award is named for the late Cheryl Steinbach, town clerk of Chautauqua, N.Y., who was a strong advocate for strengthening local government archives and record-keeping.
