PEEKSKILL, N.Y. The citys Republican Committee Chairman Vincent Vesce has endorsed Joe Carvins candidacy in the race against Rep. Nita Lowey in the newly redrawn 17th district of the U.S. House of Representatives.
Washington is broken and in desperate need of a leader like Joe Carvin who has the experience and courage to solve our nations serious economic challenges, said Vesce, who is also a former mayor of Peekskill. This years election is about the future of our country and the desire for lower taxes and a vibrant economy that creates good -paying jobs so that Westchester families can continue to live here. Joe Carvin has spent his career fighting for that and hell do the same for us in Washington.
Carvin, 57, is in his second term as the town supervisor of Rye after being re-elected last fall. He holds a degree from Harvard University Kennedy School of Government and manages a hedge fund for the London-based financial group Altima Partners.
Peekskill is currently in the 19th district, which is now represented by Republican Nan Hayworth. Lowey, who was first elected in 1988, is currently representing the 18th District until the 2012 election in November. The new 17th Congressional District will include parts of Westchester and all of Rockland County.
Carvin, who dropped out of the U.S. Senate race against incumbent Democrat Sen. Kirstin Gillabrand earlier this year, said he was proud to have Vesces support in his run for Congress.
As the former Peekskill Mayor, Chairman Vesce is acutely aware of how the spending decisions made in Washington trickle down to affect local governments, Carvin said. Washington is spending money at a rate that is having a disastrous effect on our economy. We need to reverse the reckless fiscal policies that have killed jobs and driven our taxes through the roof."
