Danbury Student Selected For U.S. Senate Youth Program

DANBURY, Conn. -- U.S. Sens. Richard Blumenthal and Christopher Murphy announced Alexandra Prendergast, of Danbury, was one of the two Connecticut students selected as delegates to the the 54th annual U.S. Senate Youth Program, which will be March 5-12 in Washington, D.C.

Prendergast was chosen to be part of the group of 104 student delegates who will attend the program’s 54th annual Washington Week, an intensive week-long study of the federal government and the people who lead it.

In addition to exceptional leadership abilities and a strong commitment to volunteer work, the delegates generally rank academically in the top 1 percent of their states among high school juniors and seniors.

Prendergast attends Danbury High School and serves as a student representative on the Danbury Board of Education and a divisional lieutenant governor of Connecticut Key Clubs. She attended Girls Nation and sits on the Statewide Student Advisory Council on Education.

A former U.S. Senate page for Murphy, Prendergast is an award-winning orator and a member of the distinguished United America Model United Nations team.

While in Washington, the delegates attend meetings and briefings with Congressional staff, the president, a justice of the Supreme Court, leaders of cabinet agencies, an ambassador to the United States and senior members of the national media.
