The woman "fled fled the house to her car -- followed by the burglar, who also ran out of the house carrying and dropping the stolen items"  shortly before 10:30 a.m., Police Chief Jeremy Abrams said Monday.

He then crossed the street and vanished behind a row of houses, the chief said.

Police from Upper Saddle River, Saddle River, Woodcliff Lake and Park Ridge assisted in setting up a perimeter.

It paid off when officers found Michael Marotta, 32, of Wood-Ridge, hiding in a house under construction on Smokerise Court, Abrams said.

Marotta was charged with burglary.

Charged with hindering were Joseph C. Marotta, 57, also of Wood-Ridge, and Joseph T. Marotta, 34, of Wallington, the chief said. Joseph Marotta also was charged with disorderly conduct, he said.
