Shawnda Wood, a 32-year-old mother of three was found shot to death in her family's Waldorf home on Friday, Dec. 9 by members of the sheriff’s office who were called to their Tawny Drive residence to conduct a welfare check.

Upon arrival, officers found Wood, who was pronounced dead at the scene. Her husband, Travis Paschal Wood, 33, was arrested and charged with multiple counts of murder and assault.

In response to Wood's death, a GoFundMe fundraising campaign was set up by her friends and family to help raise money for her three children, Autumn, McKenzie, and Melrose, all of whom are under the age of 12.

“Shawnda lost her life due to domestic violence. We are devastated that her precious life was taken away from us and her three beautiful daughters,” organizer Gerald Smith wrote in the fundraiser. “We are reaching out in hopes that you will contribute to us providing Shawnda with a proper homegoing celebration.

Within approximately 24 hours, the GoFundMe campaign raised more than $10,000 from 122 donors wishing the family well as they attempt to move forward following the tragic shooting.

“We thank you for your condolences and prayers,” organizers added. “We ask that you keep our family in your thoughts as we navigate through this tragedy.”
