Nassau County Police officers were first called at around 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 3, with reports of a robbery at a Chase Bank in Rockville Centre, located on North Village Avenue.
Employees told police that a man wearing a black ski mask and gloves had approached the teller and presented a note demanding money. The suspect threatened to use a weapon, but did not actually display one.
Instead of complying with the robber’s demands, however, the teller simply walked away. The suspect then left the bank on foot without any money, police said.
Five employees and one customer were inside at the time. Nobody was injured.
Police described the suspect as a man standing 5--foot-8, with an average build. In addition to the mask and gloves, he was wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt.
A half hour later, police again received word of a bank robbery, this time in Garden City at the TD Bank on Franklin Avenue.
Employees told police that a man entered the building at around 1 p.m. and gave a teller a note demanding money. As in the first robbery, the suspect threatened to use a weapon, but did not reveal one, police said.
The teller complied with his orders and the suspect fled the bank on foot with an undisclosed amount of money.
Eight employees were inside at the time and nobody was injured, police said.
The suspect is described as a man with a light complexion standing 5-feet-8-inches tall, with an average build. He was wearing a gray winter jacket and a black mask.
