Comedy Night To Help Boost Somers Sports

SOMERS, N.Y. - In these days of budget cutbacks and economic uncertainty, the Tuskers Booster Club has undertaken more and more responsibility for raising money to support Somers High School sports and athletes.

On Friday the club is sponsoring its second annual “Night of Comedy,” starring highly acclaimed comic Vic DiBitetto, who was "absolutely hilarious last year,” said John Reilly, vice-president of the club.

“Comedy Night is our most important fundraiser,” he explained. “The money goes directly into seven senior athletic scholarship awards. There are five $1,000 awards and two $250 awards. We give them out for success and participation. That is, the student must have participated in at least two different sports. One of last year’s winners played soccer, basketball and softball.”

The event will take place at Sinapi’s Ceola Manor, overlooking Lake Osceola in Jefferson Valley, from 7:30 p.m. To 11:30 p.m. The buffet dinner includes penne alla vodka, chicken francese, eggplant parmesan, steak pizzaiola, potatoes, vegetables and salad. Take your choice or have a taste of everything. Bottled beer and wine are included and there will be a cash bar. The price is $75 per person.

Last year the Booster Club provided funds for new dugouts on the baseball field, purchased outfield fencing for the softball program and supplied a golf cart for use by athletic trainers. Riley emphasizes that the organization's support is not limited to any particular sport. “We encourage the kids to participate in all different sports.”

The Tuskers Booster Club has approximately 100 members and welcomes new members at any time. To join, contact Chris Ward at caw156@optonline.net
