It was Lakeland's 10th state title, all under Coach Sharon Sarsen. Lakeland, which has not lost to a New York State team since 2008, finished 22-0.

It was Dana Bozek's fifth state title. Bozek's first start, as an eighth grader, came in that year's championship versus Garden City. Bozek scored the lone goal of the first half.

Junior Meghan Fahey's goal at 28:25 gave Lakeland a 2-0 lead early in the second half. However, the majority of the game was played in Lakeland's end as their defense shut down Garden City until late in the second half. Led by Julie Kim, Lakeland shut down Garden City's Michaela Bruno.

Off a corner, Bozek fed senior Valerie Perkins and Fahey then put home the rebound less than two minutes into the second half to give the Hornets a 2-0 lead at 28:25. The final goal was put in by Briana Muniz at 17:20 of the second half.

Named to the All-Tournament team were Bozek, Goalie Madison Beames and Mia Lennon. Beames made a spectacular stop late in the second half. She gave up just one goal in three state championship games including shutouts against Vestal High School (regional finals) and Brighton High School (semifinals). She recorded five saves in the game against Garden City.
