Lakeland Central School District continues to show they will not be forth coming with public information. They continue to do anything and everything to not be transparent.

Why must parents and taxpayers be forced to sue our own District because our District and our Board of Education refuse to follow state law, regarding public records we are legally entitled to.

Shouldn’t our school district want to be open and transparent about material the Committee on Open Government has stated are public documents? What could possibly be the reason, I can’t get basic records, like how much money was spent on defending the school board members in law suits? What happened to our government working for us - not our government working against us? I want to know how much of our tax dollars are being spent over and above the $145,000 retainer agreement our Board of Education has already.

The tax dollars spent on the defense of our Board of Education and the LCSD is public information - we should NOT have hire an attorney to get this public information, then sue the District for incurred legal fees, in addition to the attorney fees incurred by our District, to have access to information that is public.

Maybe you can get this information through the Freedom of Information Law without the need to have attorneys involved! Their email address is

districtclerk@lakelandschools.org.

Parents and taxpayers shouldn’t have to pay lawyers to force our district to comply with our State transparency laws.

Sincerely,

Michelle Brown
