Music And Pajamas to Benefit Primrose Playground

SOMERS, N.Y. - Kids are in for a huge treat on Thursday, Feb. 2, when Kurt Gallagher , composer and performer of “Songs for Playful Children”, makes a guest appearance at the Primrose Pajama Party. Gallagher devotes his talents to showing kids that music is created by people, not machines, and he encourages kids to join in as he entertains.

On the bill with Gallagher is Somers Intermediate School Principal John Griffiths , playing in concert with the Baloney Brothers Band. Griffiths said he has been playing piano “all my life. I started playing the accordion about 20 years ago.” He used to play regularly with the Baloney Brothers, so this event will be a reunion concert and will feature “a wide variety of children’s music in a lot of different styles, from a lot of different sources,” he said.

Everyone knows that the last word in fashion these days is a pair of cozy pajamas. Now there is a chance to wear them to the Primrose Playground fundraising event. Even the Primrose teachers will be sporting their favorite pajamas and fuzzy slippers as they read to the kids from some of their favorite books.

Cookies and milk will be served, face painting will be available, and a 50/50 raffle and an auction will add to the excitement.

Primrose Principal Katie Winter was delighted to announce on Friday that the Board of Education has unexpectedly set aside a sum of $30,000 to be applied to the Primrose Playground fund. She said they nned about $75,000 to complete the entire playground project.

“We hope to raise $4,000 to $6,000 at this event,” said Winter. “We’re hoping to start building the new playground this summer," she said.

Primrose Schoo l doors open at 5:45 p.m. on Thursday. The concert starts at 6:30 p.m. There is no school on Friday.
