News 12 Reporter Participates In Lakeland School District Literacy Event

SHRUB OAK, N.Y. -- News 12 Westchester reporter Kristina Cartwright was recently a special guest of the “One Book, One School” kick-off literacy event at Lakeland School District in Shrub Oak.

After walking the red carpet at Lakeland Copper Beech Middle School, students were greeted by a life-size copy of the book "City of Ember."

About 1,400 students and 150 staff members will read the book as an effort to promote literacy. 

Cartwright read an excerpt from Chapter 1 and also talked about the importance of technology in today’s society. 

Each student and staff member received a copy of the book which they will read independently during the month of January.
