NORTH SALEM, N.Y. – The Westchester Exceptional Children's School (WEC) in Purdys has been chosen to host a four-day teacher-training workshop focused on using theater games and techniques to assist children with autistic disabilities.

The workshop emanates from The Chicago Children’s Theater Red Kite Project, which began to create a multi-sensory program for the autistic almost five years ago. The program’s originators, Jacqui Russell and David Rench will be at WEC to supervise the workshop.

The Red Kite Project was invited to the tri-state area by The Yellow Finch Project, a recently-formed local educational theater company, comprising special educators and theater professionals who volunteer their time and resources to help children in the autistic spectrum. Among Yellow Finch’s future plans is the opening of a summer arts camp in 2013.

The training program at WEC begins on Friday, and concludes on Monday.
