The postings spread fear among parents, students and school staff, according to an announcement Thursday by Patricia P. Cyganovich, principal of the middle and high schools, and Assistant Principal George Bovino.
Cyganovich and Bovino said an investigation by both the state police and the school district found that no such threat existed.
The presence of police at the middle/high school Wednesday morning was meant to reassure people but might have made some feel more anxious, Cyganovich said.
The district regrets, she said, not explaining about the increased security earlier.
Such an announcement may have “alleviated many concerns of those sending their children to school,” the principal said, promising that “it is a protocol that will be followed in the future.”
Cyganovich and Bovino thanked those who offered suggestions for better communicating with the school community.
"With you, we will continue to work toward keeping our children safe," they said.
