School is Open: New Friends and Food Lines

SOMERS, N.Y. - Chloe Pietrangolare took the school bus for the first time when school opened a few weeks ago. “She was very excited,” her mother, Darilyn, said. “She had butterflies. She couldn’t wait to make brand new friends but she was nervous about getting on the bus. Then her friend, Michael Daly, was on the bus, so it was okay.”

Chloe’s mother thinks Primrose Elementary is “a wonderful school. They keep the children together year after year in Somers, all the way through high school. They asked parents what they wanted and everybody said, ‘We don’t want to split the kids up.’”

What does she think about replacing the old playground? “A great idea. They’re holding this one together with duct tape.”

Chloe brought her lunch to school in her lunchbox, featuring video-game star, Princess Peach of the Mushroom Kingdom. “After a week, she came home with the lunchbox full,” Pietrangolare said. “I asked her, ‘What did you eat?’ She said, ‘I got in the line and got some food.’ Nobody asked her for money, but I suppose I’ll get a bill sometime.”

The Daily Somers thanks Chloe’s dad, James, for sending us the picture of Chloe, leaving home for her first day of school.
