Somers Students Earn College Honors

SOMERS, N.Y. – Christina DeBruin and Bryan Poellot are among the students who have been been awarded the 2012 Book Award for Academic Achievement with a Social Conscience by Saint Michael’s College in Colchester, Vt.

Winners were presented with copies of “First They Killed My Father: A Daughter of Cambodia Remembers” written in 2000 by St. Michael’s alumna Loung Ung. The prize is awarded annually to high school juniors throughout the country who have been named to the National Honor Society, or its equivalent, and have demonstrated leadership in community service.

Both students attend Somers High School and are Amawalk residents.

In other education news, Maria DeRobertis , who graduated this year from Salve Regina University in Newport, R.I., is among a group of students named to the Dean’s List for the spring semester. To qualify for the Dean’s List, students must earn a minimum grade point average of 3.6 with no grade lower than a B.
